About kantajew temple
Kantanagar temple is commonly known as kantaji temple or kantajew temple in Dinajpur. It is a due medieval Hindu temple at kantanagar hamlet in Dinajpur. During 1704-1752 AD a maharaja named Pran nath dedicated this temple to Lord Krishna and his beloved,loving wife Rukmini. The first development was begun by Pran Nath around 1704 AD and later it was completed by his son Maharaja Ram Nath. It is the most magnificent, stunning and aristocrat symbol of 18 century in Bangladesh. It is an excellent sign of terracotta architecture of 1752 AD. The temple was built in a navaratna (nine-spired) style. Although during of earthquake of 1897 destroyed some parts of the temple. However, Maharaja Girijanath Bahadur it substantially reconstructed in the early 20th century. But still it is standing with of its own beauty. Kantajew temple is one of the most famous and beautiful Hindu religious edifices belonging in last medieval in Bangladesh.
This sanctuary is made of handmade earthenware tiles. This temple is decorated by wonderful artworks. Legendary scene is depicted such as lord Krishna, demon king Kangsha, Bakasure or crane demon. It is totally example of Hindu religious history. It is also delineations of some hunting scene by wild games. Regal parades of elephant, camel, horses so on. Large number of pilgrims are used to visit in this Kantajew temple every year from our country and abroad. They dedicated their gift to their God and they believe that it brings happiness and prosperities. There are some priest always living there and everyday show their respect.
Annually The committee of the temple organize a winter fare called” Rash mela” in the month of November. In this fare lots of devotee comes and it’s a monastery of admirers and priest. Moreover, many shop kippers come to sell their goods from different parts of our country. Millions of fans of Lord Krishna and general people gathered there on that fare. It’s a wonderful carnation. Fare organizer and temple committee arrange food for pilgrims and visitor.
How many times I was there I still recall that every single moment. An amazing feeling always blocked me. what a beautiful architecture it is. In the evening time, it changes its color. I never forget that journey.
How to go Kantajew Temple?
Bus or train are available for Dinajpur from Dhaka. Take it one which one you feel comfortable. However, after arrival to Dinajpur get on a bus toward Thakurgaon and tell to bus contractor you will go Kantajew Temple. They will drop you at the closest bus station of the temple then you can hire rickshaw or auto -rickshaw for reaching to temple. If you are coming from Raj Shahi or Rangpur you will get another available bus or other vehicle.
Kantajew temple is always open for pilgrims. Anyone can enter all time the temple in the day to visit.
There is no need any ticket to enter the kantajew temple but if you have a car with you then you have to spend 20 or 30 takas as a car parking charge.
